Choosing an engagement ring comes down to four decisions: the stone, the 4Cs, the certificate and the setting. Here is how our Gurugram team walks every customer through them, whether you visit the showroom or order online.

Start with the 4Cs, in the right order

• Carat is the weight, not the size. Because lab-grown diamonds cost far less per carat than mined stones, most GemHub customers choose a 1 to 3 carat centre stone, and a 5 carat solitaire is within reach for what a 1 carat natural diamond ring once cost.
• Cut decides sparkle. Ask for an Excellent or Very Good cut grade on round brilliants; fancy shapes such as oval, emerald, pear and cushion are graded on polish and symmetry instead.
• Colour in the D to F range is colourless. G to H looks identical to the eye once set in gold and costs less. Our lab-grown solitaires are typically E to F.
• Clarity of VS1 or VVS means no inclusions are visible without a loupe. Paying for internally flawless clarity rarely changes what you see on the hand.

Insist on an IGI certificate

Every GemHub lab-grown centre stone above 0.30 ct carries an individual IGI report listing the carat, cut, colour, clarity, measurements and, on most stones, a laser inscription on the girdle. The report number is printed on your invoice so you can verify it on the IGI website before, during and after purchase. Uncertified "lab diamond" rings sold on price alone are the single biggest risk for online buyers in India.

Understand what drives solitaire ring price

Your final solitaire ring price is the sum of the stone (carat, cut, colour, clarity), the metal (14K gold, 18K gold or 950 platinum, BIS hallmarked) and the making charge. GemHub prices are direct-from-manufacturer and include GST, so the number on the page is the number you pay. Customising the band, prong count or halo does not add a design fee.

Choose a setting you will wear every day

A four or six prong solitaire shows the most light; a halo makes the centre stone look larger; a pavé band adds sparkle along the shank. Prefer round for maximum brilliance, oval or pear for a longer finger, and emerald for a clean, architectural look. Not sure of the ring size?
