Moissanite jewellery buying guide

Moissanite is a silicon-carbide gemstone with more fire than a diamond, a Mohs hardness of 9.25 and a price that makes multi-carat sparkle affordable. GemHub carries more than a thousand GRA-certified moissanite designs, made in our own Gurugram workshop.

What certified moissanite means

Every GemHub moissanite centre stone comes with a GRA certificate stating that the stone is genuine moissanite, its carat weight, colour grade (DEF colourless) and clarity (typically VVS1). Uncertified "American diamond" or CZ jewellery sold as moissanite is the most common online trap; a certificate is the difference.

Choosing the setting metal

  • 925 sterling silver is the entry point for studs, pendants and fashion rings.
  • 18K gold vermeil (a thick gold layer over sterling silver) gives the look of solid gold at a much lower price and is our most popular finish.
  • BIS-hallmarked 14K and 18K gold and 950 platinum are recommended for engagement rings and pieces worn every day for decades.

Which carat size?

Because moissanite is priced per stone rather than per carat like diamonds, going from 1 carat to 2 or 3 carats costs far less than you would expect. Round brilliant shows the most fire; cushion and radiant cuts look larger for their weight; emerald cuts give a calm, elegant flash.

Care and durability

Moissanite does not cloud, fade or scratch under normal wear. Clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Remove vermeil pieces before swimming or applying perfume to keep the gold layer bright. Compare moissanite with lab-grown diamonds in our complete guide, or see stones side by side at the Sector 45 Gurugram showroom.

Frequently asked questions

Is moissanite a real gemstone?

Yes. Moissanite is a genuine gemstone made of silicon carbide. It is not a diamond and is not sold as one; it is a durable, brilliant stone in its own right with a Mohs hardness of 9.25, second only to diamond.

Is GemHub moissanite certified?

Yes. Every moissanite centre stone carries a GRA certificate confirming the stone type, carat weight, colour and clarity. The certificate is included with your order.

Will moissanite lose its sparkle over time?

No. Moissanite is stable and does not cloud, yellow or lose brilliance. Only the setting needs care: clean regularly and keep vermeil pieces away from chemicals.

Can anyone tell moissanite from a diamond?

Under normal lighting most people cannot. Moissanite shows slightly more rainbow flashes of fire than a diamond, which many buyers prefer. A jeweller's tester can distinguish the two.

Can I see moissanite jewellery in Gurgaon before buying?

Yes. Visit GemHub's showroom at Green Wood Plaza, Sector 45, Gurugram, open 10 AM to 7 PM daily, to compare moissanite and lab-grown diamond pieces in person.
