The pear cut at 8.35ct DEW creates a stone approximately 19×12mm — an elongated teardrop of brilliant fire with the distinctive tapered point that makes the pear cut one of the most visually dramatic shapes available in large moissanite.
The bowtie effect is a dark, bowtie-shaped shadow visible across the centre of some pear, oval, and marquise cut stones — caused by light reflecting off the stone's steep pavilion facets and then back into the stone rather than returning to the eye. A well-cut pear moissanite minimises this effect through precise facet angles. At 8.35ct DEW, the pear cut's proportions are critical: a length-to-width ratio of approximately 1.5:1–1.75:1 produces the most visually flattering silhouette while minimising the bowtie.
