The radiant cut was created in 1977 specifically to bring brilliant-cut fire performance to rectangular and square shapes. Unlike the emerald cut (step cut, fewer facets), the radiant has approximately 70 facets arranged in a brilliant pattern across its rectangular form. This produces maximum light dispersion — rainbow fire — across a larger surface area than a round brilliant of comparable weight.
