The Shoulders Open Up

The band splits just before the head and passes either side of the stone. On film you can see daylight through those two gaps, which is the detail a flat photograph loses.

Where The Band Divides

Front On

The stone is held at four points, one at each corner of the compass. Behind it the band separates into two thin arms that meet again underneath the setting.

Seen From Behind

The back shows the two arms running up into the basket and a clear opening under the stone. The inside of the band is smooth and sits flat against the finger.

In Soft Light

Soft light takes the hard star burst off the stone and lets the facet edges show. The metal reads white-silver here, as it does in every photograph in this set.

Worn, the split shoulders read as a narrow gap either side of the stone rather than as a feature in their own right. The head sits low enough to clear a knuckle without catching.

The band is flat on the inside, so it does not spin on a finger between sizes the way a fully round band can.
