Broad Flashes, Not Pinpoints

A triangular stone throws light in wide flat flashes rather than scattered points, and it does it in bursts as the head turns. That is easier to judge moving than in a still photograph.

Triangles With Soft Sides

Each stone is a triangle with slightly curved sides and rounded points. The two are cut to match and set the same way up, so the points land in the same place on both ears.

Post And Butterfly Back

The profile shot shows the whole fitting: a shallow three-claw basket, a straight post and a butterfly back that pushes on from behind. Nothing screws, so there is no thread to cross.

Flat Against The Lobe

On the ear the triangle sits point up and close in. The basket is shallow, so the stone lies against the lobe rather than standing away from it.

How Big It Actually Is

Worn, these read as neat rather than large. The triangle covers a little more than the soft part of the lobe, and the white metal around it is thin enough that the outline is the stone, not the setting.

A triangle also sits differently from a round. The flat base lines up with the edge of the lobe, which is why the pair looks deliberate from the front as well as in profile.
