Customise this pieceA Bezel, Not Claws
The stone is held by a rim of metal rather than by claws, so the edge of the setting is smooth the whole way round. The video shows how little the head stands off the hand.
A continuous collar of metal wraps the girdle of the round stone. No claws cross the top, so the whole table stays visible and the outline is a clean circle.
The shank swells towards the head and thins towards the back of the finger. Three short grooves are cut into the shoulder where the band meets the collar.
The underside of the head is pierced, so the back of the stone shows through the band. The inside of the shank is smooth and rounded where it sits against the finger.
Against a warm ground the metal still reads cool and white. The head is broad and low, closer to a signet ring than to a raised engagement setting, and it sits flat across the finger.
Worn, the ring reads as a single mass of metal: the collar, the shoulders and the band are one continuous line, and the stone is flush with the top rather than perched above it.
That is the practical argument for a bezel. Nothing stands proud to snag on a sleeve, and there are no claw tips to check every few months.
